Fans of 30 Rock are mourning the loss of one of the sitcom’s most beloved supporting stars. More than a decade after the comedy ended, viewers say they still remember the actor’s warm presence and memorable friendship scenes.
According to TMZ, Grizz Chapman’s rep, Saideh A. Brown, confirmed the actor’s death on Friday, May 22.
Brown shared no additional details with the media outlet, other than to share that Chapman’s family, consisting of his wife and two children, is devastated.
Shortly after news of Chapman’s death emerged, Harlem Globetrotter Donte “Hammer” Harrison shared a touching Instagram post about the 30 Rock star. Harrison and Chapman were cousins, and it seems that Chapman had been navigating health issues in recent months.
“Life gave my cousin Grizz Chapman some heavy battles, but he fought them with strength and dignity until the very end,” Harrison wrote.
He continued, “A lot of people knew him as the sitcom star from 30 Rock, but we knew the man behind the screen. A good heart, good energy, and somebody who made an impact in this life.”
“After years of fighting illness and dialysis, he passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 22nd, 2026,” he added.
Harrison noted that he and his cousin had reconnected in the months before Chapman’s death, and for that, he was thankful. He ended his caption by writing, “Your name and legacy will live on forever.”

Another commented, “No!! Grizz was the sweetest character on the show. Very sad news. Every scene showing the best-friendship of Grizz and Dotcom was genuinely heartwarming.”
Someone else added, “Very sad. I’m on my Xth rewatch of 30 Rock, and he’s fantastic. (Love that he calls Liz ‘Beth’). RIP Grizz.”
In the days before his death, Chapman shared several reflective Instagram posts, including clips featuring prayer, uplifting music, and messages about gratitude and perseverance.
30 Rock ended more than a decade ago, and Chapman had gone on to act in other shows. However, news of his death has fans of the show feeling heartbroken over the loss of an actor they adored.
