Alan Alda Would Work With Woody Allen Again: ‘I Don’t Know If He’s Guilty or Innocent’

This one may ruffle some feathers. Alan Alda, who has worked with writer and director Woody Allen in the past, recently revealed that he would join forces with again, despite the dark clouds that have loomed over him for quite some time.

The 82-year-old, who worked with the 83-year-old writer and director on 1989’s Crimes and Misdemeanors, 1993’s Manhattan Murder Mystery and 1996’s Everyone Says I Love You, chatted with The Hollywood Reporter and said, “I’d work with him again if he wanted me.” He continued, “I don’t know all the facts, I don’t know if he’s guilty or innocent. But you can be uncertain — that’s what I go on.”

The M*A*S*H star was of course referencing the sexual abuse accusations against Allen from his daughter, 33-year-old Dylan. Alan added, “I just don’t have enough information to convince me I shouldn’t work with him. And he’s an enormously talented guy.” He’s not the only person who is currently in the Annie Hall costar’s corner, as Oscar winner Javier Bardem once completely supported him.

“At the time I did Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the allegations were already well known for more than 10 years, and two states in the U.S. deemed he was not guilty,” the No Country For Old Men actor said while giving a master class at Thierry Fremaux’s Lumiere Festival in Lyon, France. He continued, “If the legal situation ever changes, then I’d change my mind. But for now I don’t agree with the public lynching that he’s been receiving.”

Javier was not done yet, as he added, “If Woody Allen called me to work with him again, I’d be there tomorrow morning. He’s a genius.” There have been actors that have expressed regret working with the director, including Colin Firth and Mira Sorvino, the latter who actually won an Oscar for her role in Mighty Aphrodite, a film written by Allen.
