What a Loving Family! Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance’s Cutest Moments With Their Kids
Don’t mess with Angela Bassett or her kids! The Black Panther star is living her best life in her 60s — and that involves being a wonderful mother of her twins, Bronwyn and Slater. As they grow up to be their own individuals, Angela’s children have received plenty of support from both her and their dad, Courtney B. Vance.
“They’re in everything now,” Courtney exclusively shared with Closer in November 2019 while chatting about the activities Bronwyn and Slater enjoy as teenagers. “Before my wife and I were going to do this, and we’re going to do this and this and this … Now [it’s like,] ‘OK, you don’t want to do that. Oh, OK, let’s do that.’ So it’s a new phase for us.”
Angela and the Lovecraft Country actor — who married in 1997 — have had plenty of experience raising their kiddos since welcoming Bronwyn and Slater on January 27, 2006. The couple has since taken a different approach to parenting, however, considering their twins are in their teenage years. So far, it seems to be working out.
“We always said that from zero to 12, children need to hear us and actually do what we ask them to do, and then 13 on we have discussions,” Courtney explained to Closer. “So we’re in the discussion phase now.”
As parents, the American Horror Story actress and Courtney hope Bronwyn and Slater avoid the whole rebellious phase kids go through as teens. Fortunately, it seems unlikely that will happen as the two have always felt comfortable enough to go to their parents for guidance when they need help with something.
“I’m just speaking from my experience, but my daughter, from the time she was a little one, was always sort of looking to me for the example of what to do and how to be,” the Marvel actress told Vulture in July 2019. “If I told her brother something, she would be my little copy. If he would do something, she would say, ‘Slater, put that down! Slater, don’t stand on that!’ She was my little copycat!”
