“We still hold hands; we still have barbecues with friends a couple times a week,” John exclusively told Closer in 2018 of his relationship with Bo. “[And Bo] still laughs at all my jokes even though she’s heard them a million times. We just enjoy each other. I’m sad when she’s not around.”
“We both travel so much, so, for us, our favorite vacation place is home,” Bo shared at the time. “That’s where the romance is.”

John revealed that it was his agent who set him up for his first date with Bo to an Oscars afterparty in 2002.
“I was very intimidated!” he admitted during an appearance on Today.
Bo, who was also with him on the show, confessed she hadn’t dated in five years prior to her relationship with John.
“I kept saying to my friends, ‘I’ll wait until all the sparks and all that get going,’” she explained. “And it finally happened.”

For many years, marriage wasn’t on Bo and John’s radar. In a 2015 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress explained there wasn’t any “pressure or need” for them to get married.
Five years later, she elaborated on their decision to not officially be husband and wife just yet when she told Fox News, “I think when you’re beginning a young family and you’re going to have children and set up this new family tree branch, it’s obviously a wonderful commitment and it’s meaningful. But for us in our lives, it hasn’t been yet.”
However, in late 2020, the pair finally decided to take the plunge and they said “I do” in an intimate ceremony.
“We’re pretty private people, we didn’t make an announcement,” the My Big Fat Greek Wedding star said during a 2021 appearance on The Talk. “All our friends and family knew but this is the first time either one of us has said anything publicly about it because really we haven’t had an opportunity … Now, I guess, I’m telling all of America, or the world.”
“After 20 years we decided to get married, we didn’t want 2020 to be that thing that everybody looks back at and hated,” he added. “We thought, ‘Well, let’s get one nice thing out of it.’”
