Beloved ’90s TV Star Turns 64 After Walking Away From a Hit Show at Its Peak
Rob Morrow celebrates his 64th birthday decades after walking away from the hit series ‘Northern Exposure,’ which he has started revisiting via a podcast.
Northern Exposure actor Rob Morrow is celebrating his 64th birthday on September 21, and in recent months, he’s been happily revisiting the show that made him a star. Although Morrow walked away from Northern Exposure midway through its final season, now he looks back more fondly on the experience.
Morrow played Dr. Joel Fleischman on the show that ran from 1990 to 1995. He appeared in just over 100 episodes before departing, hoping to shift his focus to movie roles.
In May 2025, Morrow and his Northern Exposure costar Janine Turner launched a podcast together titled Northern Disclosure. During an appearance on Steve Kmetoko‘s podcast Still Here Hollywood, Morrow talked about why the podcast was started.
He explained that for years, anytime he met fans or posted something on social media about Northern Exposure, people went wild. Fans desperately wanted to be able to watch the show again, and many also pleaded to see it rebooted.
Morrow noted that until recently, no networks streamed the iconic ’90s series, so fans really had no way to truly revisit it.
As for a reboot, Morrow revealed, “I tried four incarnations. We came this close, and for dumb reasons it didn’t happen, and I got frustrated, and I kept getting bombarded with people saying we want more.”
Morrow noted the success of podcasts revisiting older shows and reached out to Turner to see if she would be interested in doing something similar together.
He hadn’t watched the show since appearing on it, and once he did, “It just reminded me how special the show was and that it has something that I think these times really need.”
While Morrow left Northern Exposure hoping to make it big in the movie industry, he has ultimately worked most consistently in television.
Many fans remember the actor from his years playing Don Eppes on Numb3rs, and more recently, he’s had roles in Billions and Murdaugh: Death in the Family. Morrow seems to be enjoying his reconnection to the world of Northern Exposure now, more than 30 years after it debuted, and fans are, as well.
