Beloved singer Bonnie Tyler, 75, is no longer in a coma. However, the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” singer remains “very unwell” and in intensive care, according to a June 15 post on her website.
“The voice that defined an era has opened her eyes again — Bonnie Tyler is still with us,” a joyful fan tweeted in response to the news.
Another fan tweeted, “Wishing Bonnie Tyler a strong and speedy recovery ahead.”
Tyler has been hospitalized in Faro, Portugal, for more than a month. She was rushed to the hospital in early May, according to a statement on her website dated May 6.
The statement indicated that Tyler has a home in the area, and she underwent emergency intestinal surgery.
Initially, her team indicated, “The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.”
Just two days later, Tyler’s team posted an update on her website. “Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery,” they wrote.
On May 12, the singer’s team indicated, “Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in [a] hospital in Faro, however her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery.”
The statement also noted that Tyler’s family was “very disappointed in the many lurid and untrue rumours now circulating in the media.”
That seemed to be a reference to a supposed “close friend” of Tyler’s who told media outlets that she had experienced a burst appendix and cardiac arrest.
The singer’s team repeatedly asked for privacy, and additional updates were sparse for several weeks.
On June 3, a new post on Tyler’s website indicated, “No further updates have been issued yet about Bonnie’s continued recovery, but we must assume that no news is stable news, and that she is in the right place.”

The June 15 update on Tyler’s recovery indicated, “Although her condition is improving it is a slow process.”
“Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time,” her team wrote.
Tyler had been slated to tour internationally over the coming months. Her team announced that all summer dates will be postponed for now. Everything slated to take place in July and August will be affected, her team noted.
At this point, the team is hopeful that Tyler’s fall concerts can take place as scheduled, and that others can be rescheduled for 2027.
As fans wait for additional updates on Tyler’s health, they are celebrating the news that the “Holding Out for a Hero” singer has emerged from her coma after more than a month.
