Late actor Burt Reynolds was remembered by family and close friends today with an emotional funeral service in West Palm Beach, FL. And, according to a new report, the star — who died at age 82 on Sept. 6 — will be buried at sea following his funeral.

“It’s been a very sad week, the funeral service is a small, private, affair and then the family have talked about scattering his ashes in the sea,” Burt’s high school sweetheart Ann Scurry, 82, told Radar Online on Monday, Sept. 19.

Scurry also told the outlet that she Burt kept in touch over the years and the duo remained so close that she was one of the last people to speak to him before his death. “[Burt] was lonely, he used to call me all the time and at all hours of the night. One night he called me every half hour, from 9 p.m. on, all through the night. We’d talk for hours, really talk,” Scurry told Radar

“We were good friends, we still went for lunch together regularly. He had the greatest sense of humor, he was the love of my life. I was supposed to see him next week,” she continued.

“Burt, he was ready to go. He had become very frail and sometimes I wasn’t sure if his mind was right, he’d say things that were a little funny,” Scurry added.

According to photos and information obtained by Closer Weekly, Burt’s former flame Sally Field was one of many guests to attend the Smokey and the Bandit star’s Florida funeral on Sept. 19. Following Burt’s death, Sally released a touching statement about the man she famously dated from 1977 until 1982.

“There are times in your life that are so indelible, they never fade away,” Sally told People. “They stay alive, even forty years later. My years with Burt never leave my mind. He will be in my history and my heart, for as long as I live. Rest, Buddy.”
