Singer Celine Dion‘s eldest son, René-Charles Angélil, just turned 18 years old on Friday, January 25 and although she’s generally happy about René-Charles growing up, Celine, 50, revealed in a new interview that the thought of her son dating is totally stressing her out.

“The girls are starting to come now, I’m starting to be stressed out,” she joked before admitting that it’s important for René-Charles to have his own life experiences. “He’s a normal teenager growing, trying things, exploring, and I think thats the way it should be.”

Now that he’s an adult, Celine has decided to let her son choose his own “path” in life. “Sometimes you try to embrace them, sometimes you try to help them to find their path, but they have to find their own way at one point because if you pull the cable too, too much, they can really go wild and off,” she explained.

Instead of Celine relieving her stress by telling René-Charles who he should and should not date, the singer has found it helpful to just sit back and let her son make his own decisions. “Do I have a choice? I’m coping very well because that’s life and that’s normal. I know that he’s well taken care of,” she revealed. “His dad is sending him good energy and I told him that I will always have my heart in my hand for him to hold on to because we love him so much, and we wish him the best in whatever he decided to do in life as long as he’s happy because he’s a great human being.”

“I trust him,” Celine continued. “He does stuff sometimes that I have to say I don’t necessarily agree with what he chooses to try, but as long as he’s using his intelligence and his brain, I trust him. But I’m very, very proud of him!”
