Charlie Sheen Was Close to Competing on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 28

Oh what could have been! Charlie Sheen was all but ready to take part on season 28 of Dancing With the Stars, but headed for the exit door ahead of the big premiere.

“I was very flattered by ABC and their offer, but at the end of the day, I have two left feet and I just can’t dance,” the 54-year-old told Us Weekly. According to the outlet, the actor being part of the ABC show was actually part of a bigger deal at the network. “When there is a big star like that, they will get some sort of deal for a pilot with ABC,” a source explained.

“ABC made a very generous offer” for a pilot series, “it was contingent upon his participation on Dancing With the Stars,” Charlie’s publicist, Jeff Ballard, said. It also seems like the Two and a Half Men alum even planned to practice with big-time dancer Cheryl Burke before he changed his mind.

The Major League star has done quite the 180 in his life — and continues on his path to sobriety after hitting rock bottom. Charlie talked to Jay Leno about his battle with substance abuse recently. “About a year-and-a-half ago, it just hit me that I knew it was time to make a change,” Charlie confessed on the former Tonight Show host’s program Jay Leno’s Garage. “And, you know, it didn’t require some crazy rehab stint or a shootout with the cops. … “It didn’t require anything super dramatic and crazy and front-page news.”

Even though we won’t see Charlie on stage, we can at least look forward to plenty of notable faces dancing it up including Kate Flannery, James Van Der Beek and Christie Brinkley‘s daughter, Sailor Brinkley-Cook, who replaced her mom after the supermodel broke arm in a nasty fall.

“Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ this season,” the mom of three said in a statement, according to Good Morning America. “Sailor joined the cast when I got mine … ouch somebody stop me, it hurts to laugh!”

Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
