Although Days of Our Lives introduced fans to Sophia Choi’s (Rachel Boyd) overbearing helicopter mom, Amy Choi (Shi Ne Nielson), well over a year ago, her father has remained MIA throughout his daughter’s long, twisty, and emotional saga. However, that is all about to change now that Stephen Oyoung has been cast as Jason Choi, Sophia’s no-longer-invisible dad.
Days of Our Lives Brings Sophia’s Dad to Salem
Now that Sophia has been presumed dead after Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) conked her over the head with a large rock and threw her into the river, Amy is going to need a little emotional support in the form of her husband. In the past, we have seen Amy talking on the phone with him, even arguing with him when Sophia took off to Chicago last summer, allegedly to give birth.
It always seemed odd that Amy was the only parent involved with Sophia’s teen pregnancy and her stint in a mental health facility, but with Jason’s arrival on the scene, we expect to learn more about the Choi clan and what made Sophia tick. Perhaps, we will also eventually learn that Kristen’s plans failed and Sophia is really alive. In Kristen’s mind, Sophia is haunting her anyway.
According to Soap Opera Digest, Oyoung will make his debut as Jason Choi on Thursday, May 14, the same day that Amy tears into Holly (Ashley Puzemis) for how she treated Sophia right before her supposed death. Will Jason also have a bone to pick with Holly or will he try to calm his distraught wife down? Will we also see him interact with Sophia’s little brothers, one of whom we met last Halloween in Horton Town Square?
Oyoung actor comes to Salem with his own screen pedigree, having appeared in multiple series and movies throughout his career, including Grey’s Anatomy, The Book of Boba Fett, Magnum PI and How to Get Away with Murder, per IMDB.
Days of Our Lives can be streamed weekdays on Peacock.
