‘Days of our Lives’ Fans Still Can’t Get Over Bo and Hope’s Most Heartbreaking Moment
‘Days of Our Lives” Bo and Hope faced heartbreak in 2006 when son Zack was killed in a tragic accident that tore the couple apart and changed the show forever.
After a 43-year love story, Days of Our Lives’ Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) have had their share of joy, laughter, and tears. After all, Bo “died” in Hope’s arms, but returned to her a decade later thanks to the miracle cures of Dr. Rolf (Richard Wharton). But in 2006, Bo and Hope experienced the most devastating thing two people can go through, the death of a child.
Zack’s Death Broke Hearts
Bo and Hope’s young son, Zack, was playing outside when he was struck by a car. The child was rushed to the hospital, where he didn’t make it. The moment Hope learned that her child had died was one of the most gut-wrenching moments in DAYS history, but the aftermath of Zack’s death left even more tears for the couple.
Bo soon learned that his teenage daughter, Chelsea (Rachel Melvin), had hit Zack when she was texting and driving, but she hadn’t even realized what she had done. Bo tried to cover for her, but when Hope learned the truth, it tore them apart.
Two decades later, DAYS fans still remember this shocking death as if it were yesterday.
“The saddest moment in Days of Our Lives history. Very realistic and it impacts the show to this day. Texting and driving,” one fan wrote on Reddit.
“Hope wailing when she Zack died was a gut punch,” another fan concurred, remembering that moment no mother ever wants to hear.
Other fans loved the realness of it all, with one saying, “That was such a good story – Bo & Hope’s grief, Hope’s anger at Bo, Billie and Chelsea, Chelsea’s grief/guilt and the ripple effect across the canvas — everything lined up and played out for a long while. Back when the writers gave stories beats that played out naturally.”
Bo and Hope eventually went on to have a daughter, Ciara (Victoria Konefal), and more years of adventure and heartache. In 2026, they are out there traveling the world after being reunited once again last year.
