Daytime Emmy Winner Breaks Silence on Filming High-Stakes ‘Beyond the Gates’ Tornado Disaster
Mike Manning shares his excitement filming Beyond the Gates tornado episodes, as Smitty races to save Martin while Y&R stars join the CBS daytime drama crossover.
Mike Manning has been front and center as The Young and the Restless crossed over to Beyond the Gates. A political rally and a tornado strike later, Smitty finds himself right in the midst of the drama. Now, Manning has broken his silence about filming these legendary episodes.
Manning took to his personal Instagram to share his thoughts with fans. “To say I had a blast shooting these tornado episodes would be an understatement,” he wrote.
The actor shared his excitement for the final product, saying, “I am so proud of everyone who came together to make them a reality. 🌪️📺”
The Daytime Emmy winner reflected upon how everyone truly gave it their all during these episodes: “We have truly become a family on this set, and to watch everyone bring their A Game was a joy,” he said.
Manning also joked about his suit, “Also, I’m calling this my “Dick Grayson Nightwing Suit.” Probably my favorite piece so far.”
Before wrapping up, he had to acknowledge the crossover cast that also made this piece of television history iconic. “And to have our friends from Y&R join us was icing on the cake.”
He ended his post hoping viewers enjoyed the episodes as much as they “loved making them.” He also teased, “Tune in tomorrow to see what happens next… 🌩️”
Thursday’s episode ended with Manning’s character, Smitty, attempting to save his husband, Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon), after he had been impaled by debris caused by the tornado. With Martin’s life on the line, the family rallies to help him, but is it too little too late?
Meanwhile, various members’ lives remain in jeopardy, with Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle) bleeding out, and the episode’s cliffhanger ending with Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) having a chandelier falling and appearing to be headed straight for her.
Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS with episodes streaming weeknights on Paramount+.
