Teaser trailers can be both exciting and infuriating at the same time because they give you the slightest look possible at a movie you’re looking forward to, which is the exciting part. But because they generally don’t show much of anything, they’re also oh-so-annoying, as is the case with the first trailer for the movie version of Downton Abbey. Check out the film’s newly-released teaser trailer below!

So what do we know about this movie? Sadly, not much, beyond the fact that it will pick up where the series — which originally ran from 2010 to 2015 with a total of 52 episodes produced — left off. The trailer itself gives the impression that everyone involved is waiting as (im)patiently as we are for the movie to arrive. On screen, we’re given the words, “Next year you are cordially invited to the motion picture event only in theaters,” and intercut between those words coming up on screen are clocks chiming, furniture being uncovered, vehicles arriving, and the rising sun.

The film, like the show itself, is an Edwardian period drama that is focused on the Crawley family and their servants. Producer Gareth Neame has made no secrets of the fact that even as the show was winding down, there was the hope that the story would be able to continue on a much larger canvas. As he’s noted, “When the series drew to a close, it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie.”

Cast member Allen Leech previously told Closer Weekly that there was no doubt that the cast “100 percent [wanted] to come back in an epic kind of film.” Bearing out his words is the fact that the returnees include Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Elizabeth McGovern, and Dame Maggie Smith, just to name a few.

Fans can look forward to the return of Downton Abbey when the movie version reaches theaters on Sept. 13, 2019, from Focus Features.
