She’s all about working out and looking natural, but Drew Barrymore had to consider other options after she suffered from diastasis recti — a condition when the abdominal muscles separate — during her pregnancies with daughters Olive Kopelman, 6, and Frankie Kopelman, 5.

“I love exercising, but after two kids I kept getting injured because I just did not have a core,” the 44-year-old beauty recently admitted to People. “My midsection was like a fish tank and I just kept getting sidelined.”

Drew, who recently became the new spokesperson for EMSCULPT, explained that after attempting to work out, she would “be completely messed up” and forced to stop. “I just could not find that good balance,” the Never Been Kissed actress shared.

Drew chose to open up about her situation because it’s a condition that she feels deserves more awareness. “Women are having children all the time, and no one’s talking about how their body is forever changed,” she said. The brunette beauty explained that she heard about EMSCULPT — a non-invasive, electromagnetic procedure that eliminates fat cells and tightens muscles — and decided to see if it would help strengthen her separated midsection.

“I felt immediately different. And it looked immediately different, but it just functioned differently,” she said. “It was just about the way it functioned. I just want to feel empowered and good about myself, and I really was looking for something that would allow me to be stronger so I could get stronger.”

Since getting into EMSCULPT, the Santa Clarita Diet star dished that she’s gotten back into working out on a regular basis. She’s even incorporated some new workouts! “I love hot yoga, I love physical therapy and Pilates to really help me with my pelvic floor, then EMSCULPT to strengthen my core, and then I love to top it off with dance cardio,” she gushed.

Drew even hilariously joked that now that she’s older, doing an exercise at the gym is a good substitute for going out and partying. “I love going to the clubs and dancing it off, but now that I’m a mom, that’s not my life, but I still have that person inside of me — she didn’t die!” the 50 First Dates actress quipped. “So if I get to go to a workout class and exercise the demons and dance it out to good music, oh my god that’s all I want.”

The Wildflower author — who separated from former husband Will Kopelman in 2016 — explained that her fitness journey is a part of her goal to have the best health in her 44th year. “This is my year,” she confidently said. “I have to take care of myself. I really wanted to get to a place of strength so I could have the second half of my life be more athletic than the first half was. I want to be able to chase my kids around and be a full-time mom and have my career.”
