Elizabeth Hurley on Taking Eight Years off to Raise Her Son Damian — “I Don’t Regret It for a Moment”
In the new issue of Closer Weekly, on stands now, Elizabeth Hurley opens up in an exclusive interview about becoming a single mother and why it was the best thing to ever happen to her.
From her punk youth in ’80s England to global stardom as a model and actress in hits like Austin Powers, Elizabeth has lived a wild, wide-ranging life. She’s had several high-profile relationships, too, but of all the men she’s loved, none holds a bigger place in her heart than her 15-year-old son, Damian Hurley.

"Looking after my son became my No. 1 task, and it was a joy to have someone else on whom to focus," she tells Closer of having Damian in 2002 with ex-boyfriend Steve Bing. "I was 36 and had been worrying about myself for quite long enough."
"I stopped doing movies and TV for the first eight years of his life, and I don’t regret it for a moment," Elizabeth, 51, reveals. "I always put him first."
Ironically, that choice led to one of her greatest successes: the Elizabeth Hurley Beach swimwear collection she launched in 2005. "It allowed me to be more flexible with my time and work when Damian was at school," she explains.

As the star unveils her 2017 collection and gets ready for Season 4 of her E! drama series, The Royals, it’s clear that motherhood has only opened up new avenues to explore.

"I love my life," she tells Closer. "I love change and I love new experiences."
