General Hospital’s Sonny (Maurice Benard) has had multiple wives, multiple loves, and multiple heartbreaks during his 33 years in Port Charles. Over the last few years, Sonny has been floundering in the romance department. While he might be involved in a new secret fling with assistant district attorney Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor), longtime fans still see only one endgame woman for Sonny because sometimes your first love really is your true love.
General Hospital Fans Choose Sonny’s Soulmate
Sonny Corinthos met Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil) not long after arriving on the Port Charles scene. The pair had a tumultuous romance, marred by Sonny’s dangerous and illegal business activities. Marriages to others, presumed deaths, and a penchant for Sonny always leaving Brenda standing in the rain kept them apart for years. But in 2011, nearly 20 years after they first met, Sonny and Brenda finally wed.
Sadly, their marriage was short-lived, and Brenda ended up leaving town to raise the little away she had taken in away from Sonny’s many enemies, who were always trying to kill him. When she returned again three years later, Sonny and Brenda still couldn’t get it together. However, that doesn’t mean that fans still don’t want to see a Sonny and Brenda happily ever after.
“I will die on this hill…Sonny and Brenda is the greatest love story GH has ever told and it’s not even close,” one Reddit user said of her favorite pair.
Another Reddit user insists that there’s only one woman for Sonny, saying, “Sonny and Brenda, no contest. They were so electric together.”
If Sonny were ever to leave GH, fans can only see him riding off into the sunset with Brenda. As one Reddit fan said, “Hopefully Brenda returns and he realizes she is the love of his life and they finally marry and leave the show.”
While Sonny hasn’t actually mentioned Brenda in years, it wouldn’t surprise the audience if the one who got away is the one who finally gets Sonny to leave Port Charles and mob life behind for good.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams each weeknight on Hulu.
