‘General Hospital’s’ Kelly Monaco Marks Billy Miller’s ‘Heavenly Birthday’ With Note From Late Star
Kelly Monaco shares a heartfelt letter from Billy Miller on his heavenly birthday that he wrote several years ago, honoring the ‘General Hospital’ star’s lasting legacy.
General Hospital alum Kelly Monaco has taken to Instagram to share something deeply personal with her legion of fans, as well as the fans of her former costar, Billy Miller, who died three years ago this week, two days shy of his 44th birthday.
Monaco and Miller shared a close relationship during his time on GH from 2014 to 2019. Originally cast as the new Jason Morgan, Miller’s character was later revealed to be his twin, Drew Cain. As Sam McCall, Monaco was paired with Miller on-screen for several years, during which time they formed a close bond.
Now, Monaco is remembering her old friend, who took his life on September 15, 2023.
“It’s Billy Miller’s Heavenly birthday,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of a letter from Miller. “He sent me this a few years ago, after he left @generalhospitalabc wanting me to post it.. I didn’t. But… I know he wanted anyone who’s ever supported his work and or got to know him as a friend, to read this letter. He is a gift that keeps giving.”
The note read:
“Hello friends, With a slight air of sadness, it is time to ponder what ‘Goodbye’ means. However, instead of dwelling on what is gone and sure to be missed, there is another way. Maybe our goodbye is really a remembrance of love felt, an appreciation for lives shared, and the lifelong reminisces that come from embraces given and received. Maybe our goodbye is an earnest hope for the brightest path forward for us all. Maybe our goodbye is honoring growth and lessons learned. Now, instead of sadness, I am filled with gratitude for all your support, encouragement, and every emotion shared. I cherish the journey we have taken together. Thank you for allowing me into your homes and lives. With every ounce of myself, I thank you for being you. I would be remiss in this crazy, unpredictable world we all love so much if I did not hold out the possibility that maybe our GOODBYE is really….. UNTIL NEXT TIME. All My Love.”
Miller, a three-time Daytime Emmy winner, got his start on soaps as All My Children’s Richie Novak in 2007, but rose to daytime fame as Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless in 2008 and remained with the CBS soap until 2014, per IMDb. He exited Y&R to join the cast of GH, where he met Monaco, who brought Sam McCall to life from 2003 to 2024.
