‘Happy Days’ Star Henry Winkler Loves Spoiling His Grandchildren (Exclusive)

He’s graced our TV screens for decades, but Henry Winkler is all about one thing these days: his grandchildren, and he has no problem spoiling them as often as he wants.

“Henry’s new show Barry has put him back on top and he’s making a ton of money,” an insider exclusively tells Closer Weekly. “He’s a totally selfless guy though and he’s not sinking his new fortune into cars or real estate, instead he’s just spoiling his family, especially his grandkids. He loves giving his family generous gifts but he also dotes on them in a non-materialistic way too by spending time and reading them the stories that he’s written.”

The source adds, “Henry was on the verge of retiring from acting, and now he’s busier than ever and getting the best reviews of his life. It’s given him a whole new lease on life.”

The 74-year-old was recently nominated at the Golden Globes for his role in Barry — the dark comedy drama, that also stars Bill Hader, reeled in a total of three nominations at the awards show. And yet, even though the Happy Days alum is back on the radar again, his focus remains his family, especially his five grandchildren. The actor once exclusively gushed to Closer Weekly just how much he adores being a grandpa.

“I love being a grandparent,” he said at a book signing for his 33rd children’s book and ninth in his popular Here’s Hank series. “I thoroughly enjoy myself.” He continued, “We spoil them with love,” referring to his wife of 40 years, Stacey Weitzman. The pair are parents to two children, daughter Zoe Emily Winkler, 39, and son Max Winkler, 35.

And even though he’s up there in age, Henry is still looking to add to his 55-year career, and he once revealed his greatest life lesson to staying strong and positive. “You never know what is around the corner so just keep your spirit because it all works out,” he shared at the 2019 SAG Awards. “There were times when I had a hard time right after Happy Days for about nine years — I couldn’t really be an actor. So then I became a producer and we did McGuyver. But acting is my first love so you just stay and keep your spirit up!”
