‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ Star Dead at 82
Michael Byrne, best known for playing the ruthless Colonel Ernst Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, has died. He was 82.
On Tuesday, June 30, TMZ reported that Byrne had died earlier this month on June 20. However, a cause of death has not been publicly disclosed at this time.
Byrne’s career spanned more than 60 years. While most moviegoers remember Byrne trading punches with Harrison Ford‘s Indiana Jones, he also appeared in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 as the elderly Gellert Grindelwald.
Other notable film credits for Byrne include Braveheart, Tomorrow Never Dies and Gangs of New York.
He was also a prominent star in one of Britain’s favorite soap operas — Coronation Street. Byrne played Ted Page for 67 episodes in the daytime television show.
While IMDb doesn’t list Byrne as having a spouse, the site does report that he’s survived by a daughter, Tara, and one grandson, Tom Byrne.
