Many are wondering if CBS officially pulled the plug on the Tom Selleck-led police procedural drama, Blue Bloods, after 14 seasons. Fans have fought to save the show and called for a potential spinoff, however, did their efforts ultimately work?

Is ‘Blue Bloods’ Canceled?

Sadly, it’s the end of the line for Blue Bloods’ initial run on CBS. The show has officially been canceled after 14 seasons on CBS, the network revealed.

“We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said in a statement in May 2024. “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give show the sendoff it deserves.”

Following the cancellation announcement, Tom released a statement about working on the popular show for more than a decade.

“For the past 13 years, it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family,” he said. “Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes.”

Did ‘Blue Bloods’ Get Picked Up By Another Network?

Blue Bloods did not get picked up by another network. It was a hope of several of the cast members that the series would be saved and continue on. However, that was not the reality.

“I don’t think there’s a possibility of it going to another network – I know that there’s been a bit of chatter about that, but I don’t think that that’s a viable option given the talks that we’ve had with the cast and the producers and things like that,” cast member Abigail Hawk told Hello! Magazine in October 2024.

When Was the ‘Blue Bloods’ Series Finale?

Blue Bloods began airing the second half of its final season in October 2024. The show’s season 14 series finale aired on CBS on December 13, 2024.

Is There Going to Be a ‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff?

There is officially a Blue Bloods offshoot in the works that is set to feature Donnie Wahlberg. The announcement about the upcoming show was made in a CBS press release in February 2025. The working title of the Blue Bloods expansion series is Boston Blue.

“In BOSTON BLUE, a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS, Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family,” the network said in the press release.

Donnie first said he was interested in doing a spinoff if the core values of the show remained the same.

“There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, about various spinoffs, all types of concepts of spinoffs,” he told TV Insider in October 2024. “I, for me personally, would say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods and done with the care that we tried to put into Blue Bloods every week, it would be something that I would look forward to watching or being a part of either way.”
