One of the consequences of fame is that everyone thinks that they know you. When Jennifer Lopez graced the cover of Harper’s Bazaar‘s new February 2019 issue, she explained that sometimes being famous is not all that it’s cracked up to be, especially when people constantly feel the need to judge you like they’re your friend.

“You’re trying to do your best and people are putting you down or trying to make believe you’re not a nice person, or you’re a diva,” the 49-year-old confessed. “I’m always like, ‘Who are you talking about?’”

Though Jennifer has been in the showbiz spotlight for more than three decades, she still hasn’t gotten over the constant pressures of fame. “It’s hard when people are always telling you that you’re not good at things or saying, ‘Why is she successful?’ You get a lot of that when you’re a successful woman. You don’t get that as much when you’re a man,” she explained.

Jennifer lamented that even though her latest project, her new movie titled Second Act, has been a hit with fans, some people will always tell her that her work just isn’t good enough. But instead of focusing on negative comments, the mom-of-two just tries to uplift herself.

“The thing about people, women especially, is that you can have 12 people telling you you’re amazing, but that one person kind of putting you down, that’s the voice that sticks in your head,” she said about her haters. “Then finally you go, ‘Wait, I’m not lying. I’ve been doing this a long time. This is not a mistake. I worked hard to be here.’ And you know what? Congratulations to myself. Not in an arrogant way, by any means. It’s like, ‘You’re doing good, baby. Give yourself a break.’”
