Hallmark actor John Reardon is on the road to recovery after revealing his tonsil cancer diagnosis.

John Reardon Announced His Cancer Diagnosis on Social Media

John shared news about his medical condition in a post on Instagram on December 24, 2024.

“Last night was my first night out after my recovery from tonsil cancer,” he wrote in a lengthy caption.

The post featured one photo of John wearing a black coat and another photo of John sitting in the doctor’s office with a mask on his face.

“Has been a long road between these two pictures and the difference is from the love and support I received from my people in my life,” he reflected. “My amazing partner @officialmeghanory for taking on our whole world to help me get better. My brave kids who inspired me.”

John also thanked his dad, who took him for walks when it was “hard for me to get out of bed – and I’m sure hard for him to see his son in pain.”

“My Mom @ocean__cottage who made me soups and ginger honey tea and green juices so I could get calories into my body,” the Canadian actor added. “My sister and brother @dr_laura_reardon @marcreardon81 who helped with the kids and the challenges of life when I couldn’t. All my in-laws, who are not just in-laws they are family, who brought food and cookies and talked through challenges with us.”

John thanked the family’s nanny, their neighbors and “everyone who sent food or love and support or messages and kind words and also all the amazing doctors, nurses, technicians, hospital workers, psychologists.”

“Kindness is an under appreciated quality in people,” the post concluded. “We should never under value it. Celebrate it and distribute it as much as possible. It is free and life changing. Happy Holidays.”

What Is Tonsil Cancer?

Tonsil cancer is a common type of oropharyngeal cancer.

“Symptoms include persistent sore throat and swollen tonsils,” per Mayo Clinic. “The condition is commonly linked to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, though heavy alcohol and tobacco use may also increase tonsil cancer risk. Tonsil cancer treatments include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.”
