The 2019 Grammy Awards started the night by showing love to Dolly Parton. Kacey Musgraves and Katy Perry sang onstage with the 73-year-old country music legend, but fans were not happy with the “Teenage Dream” singer, as they thought she was trying to upstage Dolly.

Kacey, 30, and Katy, 34, started singing the blonde beauty’s 1977 hit song “Here You Come Again,” and then Dolly joined them onstage. Fans had a lot to say about Katy’s performance and immediately took to Twitter to reveal their feelings. Be sure to watch the video above to see what happened!

One wrote, “@siriusmvolume Katy Perry can’t carry a tune in a paper bag. She had no business in that Dolly Parton tribute.” Another echoed, “I’ve seen war. I’ve seen violence. But I’ve never witnessed anything close to the barbaric murder Katy Perry just committed on @DollyParton.” A third chimed in explaining the California native’s performance was over the top writing, “Can we discuss Katy Perry singing WAY too hard during that Dolly Parton tribute? I wasn’t a fan.”

A lot of viewers were also confused about why Katy was invited to do the tribute in the first place since she isn’t a country singer. Someone on Twitter said, “Who thought @KatyPerry was a good fit for the Dolly Parton tribute? #grammys #TheGrammys2019.” A second person seemed confused, writing, “They really put Katy Perry up there with Dolly Parton. The #Grammys really don’t care about Dolly, huh?”

Meanwhile, Maren Morris, Miley Cyrus and Little Big Town finished the ten-minute set and people couldn’t get enough of their musical number.

Katy and Dolly have known each other for several years and the Tennessee native is actually a big fan of the Grammy nominee.

“Katy Perry is a living doll,” Dolly told Rolling Stone magazine in a 2016 interview. “I like her because she is very upfront, open, honest and funny. I like her approach to her music. She’s a very talented and serious songwriter and I always appreciate that. I look forward to getting to know her better personally as we have a lot in common … our love for songwriting and our similar upbringing.”

Katy has yet to respond to any of the criticism, but as long as Dolly was OK with everything, that’s all that matters. Right?
