And the truth comes out! Remember Matt Lauer's infamously awkward 2005 interview with Tom Cruise? We do too, even though it's already been 13 years!

During a previous interview on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live!, the former Today host revealed how he felt after the two argued over Scientology, psychiatry, and prescription drugs during the sit-down. “Can I just say before we do this, I like Tom Cruise,” Matt shared before adding, “We have a good relationship, we have a good friendship. It was just one little moment.”

However, in that moment, he was totally heated after Tom called him out! “I was thinking, 'Can I take him in a wrestling match? Could I tackle him on the set?’” Matt previously told Andy Cohen of the tense one-on-one.

Tom, 55, sat down for an interview with Matt on the hit morning show over a decade ago to promote his film, War of Worlds — but the conversation took a wrong turn when Tom said to Matt, "You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do."

And years later, Matt built up the courage to even bring up the interview to Tom's ex-wife, Katie Holmes! When she was promoting her 2016 film Touched by Fire, Matt said to Katie on Today, "[The movie] asks the question, is it beneficial to treat these people with drugs?" he began. "You and I both remember a heated discussion I got into on that subject here in this studio. How do you think the movie comes down on that?" Somehow, Katie was able to dodge the super awkward question about her ex!

Don't worry, though, Tom and Matt have since made up — and Matt admitted he actually learned a valuable lesson from his awkward interaction with the Hollywood star. “Even the bad interviews I think you learn from. They make you better,” he said. “If you have a bad experience on the air, you don’t think you’ve done your job or you have an embarrassing moment. I guarantee you’ll work harder the next time not to let it happen again.” We're not sure what's in Matt's future when it comes to interviews, but we hope if he gets the chance to speak with Tom again, it goes way better than that did!
