Kensington Palace has just revealed what Prince Harry‘s fiancée, Meghan Markle, received for her first official royal gift. Before we share what the magical present is, it should be noted that we are living in a time where women’s voices are finally being heard… On the forefront of change, if you will. In fact, Harry’s marriage to a bi-racial, divorced Hollywood actress is by all accounts awesomely groundbreaking.
(For the record, Meghan is a lot more than a bi-racial, divorced Hollywood actress. The 36-year-old is a proud feminist, a warrior for human and equal rights, an animal advocate, a humanitarian, and an all-around remarkable and inspiring woman.) So, when the palace kindly revealed that Meghan was gifted an apron, we were like “Huh?” Full disclosure, Prince William received the item on behalf of the couple while touring Finland in November — and it’s believed she was given it because she’s an avid cook.

We’re guessing the Finnish public took heed to Harry and Meghan’s engagement interview, where they shared how cooking was the vital ingredient to how Harry popped the question. Meghan explained, “[It was] just a cozy night, it was — what we were doing? Just roasting chicken… trying to roast a chicken and it was just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.”
While the present is inspired, for the last 14 years Finland has reportedly been voted the best country to be a mother and is home to the world’s best education system. We’re betting they could have gifted the former actress something that appeals to her humanitarian side. But that won’t stop Meghan and Harry from still being humble recipients.
Meanwhile, thanks to the magic of Instagram, we can see what the couple have used as their official “thank you” card. Using a candid image from their engagement photocall at the end of November, the message reads, “Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle were incredibly touched that you took the trouble to write as you did in connection to their forthcoming Wedding. It really was most thoughtful of you and greatly appreciated. His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle send you their warmest thanks and very best wishes.”
