Michael Mealor Explores ‘The Darker Side of Kyle’ With Latest ‘Young and the Restless’ Twist

The Young and the Restless’ Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) shocked the fandom when their business meeting turned into a romp on Jack’s office couch, something they said can never happen again. In the soap world, that means it is going to happen again soon, which is a story Michael Mealor is ready for.

A Surprise Affair on Y&R

Kyle and Victoria’s pairing is a classic soap trope, as we have seen mothers and daughters share men before. Tad Martin (Michael E. Knight) infamously slept with both Liza Colby (Marcy Walker) and her mother, Marian (Jennifer Bassey), on All My Children four decades ago, while Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) and Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) both slept with Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) on General Hospital just two years ago.

Just last year, Kyle was ready to ask Victoria’s daughter, Claire (Hayley Erin), to marry him, and now he has had sex with her mother in his father’s office for a world of soap opera messiness. Mealor described this turn of events to Soap Opera Digest with three words: “It’s pure lust.”

Neither Kyle nor Victoria had ever looked at the other as an individual before, Mealor explained, but they began to after spending more time together because of business and family struggles.

“They developed this kind of seductive competition between them,” Mealor said. “Oh, you’re fun to spar with. You can take it on the chin and give it right back to me.” He added that the affair is bringing out “the darker side of Kyle that loves danger.”

In fact, Mealor thinks that this darker side of Kyle goes beyond his new dalliance with Victoria. “It can come out in his business life,” Mealor points out. “It can come out in his family life whenever there’s issues there,” he said.
