Mika Brzezinski Makes Major Career Announcement Regarding ‘Morning Joe’: ‘I Am Honored’
Mika Brzezinski revealed some major news about her Morning Joe role this week.
In an Instagram post shared on Monday, October 28, Mika, 57, posed for a photo with Stevie Nicks on the set of Morning Joe.
“I am honored to welcome @stevienicks and @sherylcrow to @morningjoe this week,” the TV anchor captioned the post. “We will be talking about Stevie’s new song ‘The Lighthouse’ and how it is a warning to all women across America.”
Mika praised Stevie, 76, and Sheryl Crow for being “remarkable.” The interviews with the musicians will air on Morning Joe at 6 a.m. ET on Wednesday, October 30, according to an MSNBC press release.
“Look forward to watching Stevie! The Lighthouse is an amazing anthem! Thank you Stevie!” one person commented on the Instagram post.
Another said, “I love both of those strong women, can’t wait to see them on your show!”
Stevie wrote her new song, “The Lighthouse,” about the ongoing debate over women’s reproductive rights in America. She explained why she wrote the song in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.
“Because everybody kept saying, ‘Well, somebody has to do something. Somebody has to say something,'” the singer said. “And I’m like, ‘Well, I have a platform. I tell a good story. So maybe I should try to do something.’ I was also there. I was, been there, done that.”
The announcement about Stevie’s Morning Joe appearance came after Mika opened up about the misconceptions about women over 50 in the workforce.
“I think of the concept of 60 when I was 30, and the concept of 60 now,” she told Politico on October 25. “I would say 60 is the new 40. Now we are seen and accepted and pulled upon as wise and capable.”
“We are leading. We are making money. We are spending money. We are at our wisest. And we have, at this time in our lives, the least amount of f–ks,” the MSNBC personality added. “That makes us much more valuable than at 50, 40, at 30 and 20. Everything is coming into place for us so that we can use the attitudes, the wisdom and the experience that we bring to the table to be effective for ourselves and for our fellow women. And we’re doing it.”
Mika is the founder of the Know Your Value movement, helping women recognize and be recognized for their value in the workplace and other areas of their lives. She currently cohosts Morning Joe with her husband, Joe Scarborough, and Today’s Willie Geist.
“To know your value and communicate it effectively and be effective in business, you’ve gotta be able to talk about your value,” Mika said. “You can’t expect people are just going to notice it.”
She has long encouraged women to use their voices at work, advice she has deemed useful in her own career at MSNBC.
“You want to be able to nail it in the moment,” Mika said. “You can’t nail it unless you practice.”
“Women really struggle with finding the right moment to use their voice,” she continued. “To get out there and say something, maybe to jump in a meeting and have a great idea.”
