Two big names are one step closer to returning to their old stomping grounds, with Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly both rejoining the NCIS universe this fall. New photos showing both Weatherly and Harmon back in the thick of things have emerged, and fans have plenty to say about it all.
On July 17, an array of photos posted on the NCIS Verse Instagram page gave fans a peek at what’s ahead. Weatherly and Harmon were both at a big franchise table read, and the caption of the post read, “Three shows. One franchise. BIG table read energy.”
NCIS fans took to the comment section to share their thoughts, and some consistent themes emerged among the responses.
“Bringing DiNozzo back without Ziva is strange behavior,” one fan wrote.
Another gushed, “This makes my OG NCIS heart so happy!! Very Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo is BACK! Now we just need Ziva and Tali to join him!”
Someone else shared, “I can’t contain my excitement that Tony DiNozzo is back! My favorite character! I just hope Ziva returns too!”
“Looks like we’re in for something great,” an additional comment read.
One fan suggested, “With Mark on ‘Origins’ for a season long arc and Michael on the mothership for a season long arc, it feels like we will see them both colliding in a season finale cliffhanger set up for a season 25 gift to us fans.”
CBS has announced that Harmon will have a season-long arc on NCIS: Origins Season 3.
While Harmon stopped appearing on-camera as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 2021, he has remained involved in the NCIS universe behind the scenes. He has been the narrator for the Origins prequel, but in Season 3, he’s back on camera.
As for Weatherly, he returns to the original NCIS for Season 24. His character, Tony DiNozzo, left after 13 seasons, although he popped up again briefly in Season 21. Weatherly also reunited with Cote de Pablo for the short-lived Paramount+ spinoff NCIS: Tony & Ziva.

NCIS fans are excited to see both Harmon and Weatherly return to their iconic roles within the franchise. With Weatherly, however, a lot of “Tiva” fans are expressing their disappointment that de Pablo isn’t returning, as well.
At a recent Comic Con appearance, Weatherly addressed the Ziva situation. “There’s not going to be a retconning of like, oh, Tony & Ziva never happened.”
Weatherly admitted that he couldn’t say much more, because he’d “start saying specific things, so I’m going to be quiet.” Some NCIS fans might interpret that as a hint that perhaps Ziva is still around, but for now, everybody will have to wait and see.
