Walmart has started carrying a new candy brand that is already a hit with customers.Ron Adar / M10s / MEGA
A new candy brand has just launched at Walmart, and it already seems to be a big hit. The brand name is HallPass, and the products are garnering attention due to their nutrition labels.
As the company explained in a press release shared by PR Newswire, HallPass is a new brand with a specific focus. Co-founders Peter Rahal and Michael Tierney built their brand by focusing on one idea: create candy options that taste good, but do not come with the nutritional downsides most candy has.
“Our ambition is to make HallPass the Coke Zero of candy,” Tierney explained.
He explained, “People still love candy. They just don’t want to make the same tradeoffs to eat it.”
The goal they have with HallPass is to “deliver the taste and experience of classic candy for a fraction of the calories and sugar, without asking consumers to pay a premium for it.”
As Tierney pointed out, products like Coke Zero don’t cost more than the original version. When it comes to low-calorie or low-sugar candy items, however, the prices are often much higher than their traditional counterparts.
“That needed to change,” Tierney insisted.
HallPass is starting with three items, all sold exclusively at Walmart. There are Chocolatey Candy Pieces, Peanut Cups, and Peanut Creme Crispy Wafers. Each of the three items will surely remind customers of other popular brands of candy, but there is a big difference when looking at the nutritional details.
Each of the three HallPass candies has 1 gram of sugar and just 70 calories per package.
In comparison, a popular brand of chocolatey candy pieces in a similar serving size contains 230 calories and 31 grams of sugar. Similarly, a popular brand of chocolate peanut butter cups of the same serving size has 210 calories and 22 grams of sugar.

Of course, lower calories and sugar volumes are only one part of the equation. The candy needs to taste good, too. Early customer reviews signal that HallPass nailed it.
“I tried all 3 flavors, they’re all absolutely delicious. Like wow,” one person shared on Reddit.
Another Reddit user on the same thread noted, “What’s most surprising is that the price isn’t too bad for what it is.”
An Instagram post from HallPass received similar feedback from early customers.
One customer wrote, “Already got mine. They’re amazing, ESPECIALLY frozen.”
Another comment read, “This has changed my life thank you hallpass.”
The HallPass products were officially released in Walmart stores on August 29; although not everybody interested in trying them has been able to find them yet, it seems.
