Duke of Wales Prince Charles had such a fun time when he visited one of the oldest remaining buildings in northeast Scotland on Monday, April 29! As soon as he arrived at the newly refurbished hut, which is home to the 1st Macduff Scouts, he was greeted by a few kids who couldn’t wait to meet the prince.

For the outing, Charles, 70, donned a Rothesay tartan kilt and spoke with each young scout about their newly renovated hut. “It’s wonderful to see it all brought back to life, isn’t it?” he was heard telling a few people, according to the Daily Mail.

After he met everyone, Charles went into the beautifully decorated hut to make colorful key rings with members of the staff. “I wouldn’t know where to begin. I think it’s going to take me too long to learn,” he joked while looking around at the supplies.

“It was a most enjoyable visit. He was really interested in the building and all the stuff the kids are doing, all their badges,” Scout leader Dennis Watt said about Charles. “He didn’t take part in trying to make a key ring but he’s a bit like myself, it’s too difficult. All the kids seemed to enjoy meeting him.”

Once Charles wrapped up his meeting with the scouts, he was off to visit the new Smiddy Centre of Excellence for Silversmithing and Jewelry nearby. There he used a hammer to make a communal bowl in front of his fans.

“Everyone has had a bash on the bowl and I asked His Royal Highness to use the hammer to remove the marks from when the bowl was being raised,” silversmith Megan Falconer said. “I was quite nervous showing him how to do it but he really got into it!”

“It was lovely to meet him and he seemed interested in what we do,” Megan continued. “He definitely seemed interested in being here and learning about the craft.”
