Here’s Exactly How to Pronounce Third Royal Baby Prince Louis’ Name!

When Kate Middleton and Prince William finally announced their newborn baby son's name in late April, royal fans were ecstatic. But now that Prince Louis has been in the spotlight more and more following his christening, many people are extremely confused at one major thing: the correct pronunciation of Louis. Luckily for us, many UK reporters and royal experts took to Twitter to help explain how to pronounce the regal moniker after his birth on April 23. "For my American friends Louis is pronounced Lew-ee not Lewis – silent s!" one wrote. Another added, "Pronounced Lou-ey, not Lewis…" One joked, "We should probably be clear for any American royal fans its 'Lou-ee' not 'Lew-is.'"

The royal couple previously shared the news of royal baby No. 3's name with a statement released by Kensington Palace nearly three months ago. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles," the note read. "The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge."

Not many were pegging Louis would be the name, but it actually has a lot of royal family history (no surprise there!). Even though they didn't name him after William's grandfather, Prince Philip, his grandfather was actually named Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg. On top of that, Louis is one of William's middle names, as well as the name of Prince Charles' late uncle Earl Louis Mountbatten.

Kate and William previously welcomed little Louis on Monday, April 23. "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well," the statement read at the time. "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news."
