Richard Gere Will Become A Dad for the Second Time at Age 69 — His Wife Alejandra Is Pregnant!

Congratulations are in order for Richard Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva! Just one month after reports claimed that the 69-year-old actor and his 35-year-old wife are expecting their first child together just five months after the couple tied the knot in Spain, Alejandra confirmed her pregnancy on social media! She announced she was pregnant on Sunday, Sept. 16, with a very sweet Instagram post.

“A very special moment a few minutes ago… Getting blessings for our precious to come… We could not say it before telling HH Dalai Lama,” Alejandra wrote in the caption of a photo featuring the Dalai Lama as he placed his hands on her baby bump, blessing their unborn child while Richard looked on.

The Spanish daily newspaper ABC was the first to break the news that Alejandra is pregnant on Wednesday, Aug. 8. As reported by the Daily Mail, the respected news outlet was also the first to reveal that Richard and his activist bride had secretly married in a civil ceremony in April.

This new baby will be the second child for both Richard and Alejandra who both have older kids from previous marriages. The Pretty Woman actor welcomed his only child, 18-year-old son Homer James Jigme Gere, with second wife Carey Lowell back in 2000. In 2012, Alejandra gave birth to her six-year-old son, Albert Friedland, whose dad is her ex-husband, Govind Friedland. 

Shortly after Richard and Alejandra got hitched earlier this year, the Golden Globe-winning actor candidly opened up about the couple’s four-year romance. “I’m the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be? I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook, and who makes the best salads in the world!” he gushed to Hello! magazine.

“Alejandra meditates, she’s a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel, and she’s also Spanish — the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Bunuel. You can’t get any better than that,” Richard shared. 

A source close to the pair also told People that Richard is “extraordinarily happy” and another insider added, “They’re so comfortable with each other, have fun together, and are looking forward to their future together!”
