While Elton John is currently on his farewell tour, another music legend, Rod Stewart, is thinking of calling it quits in the near future too.

“It’s closer than you think,” the 74-year-old told The Sun when it comes to hanging up his stage outfits and stepping off stage for good. “I think I’ll always sing, but I can’t always do this. There’s got to come a time when I’m going to say, ‘Right, put away the tight trousers and all the funny clothes.'”

The singer, who really hit mega-stardom with his huge 1971 hit “Maggie May,” has been in the industry since the 1960s, and he has sold over 100 million records worldwide. He released Blood Red Rose, his 30th album, back in September 2018 — another chart-topper.

Rod is currently on tour, proving that he’s still rocking, but he insists that changes may be coming to his career.

“I want to go on and do the Great American Songbook. In fact, I had a meeting about it last week, doing all the jazz standards at the Albert Hall,” he revealed to the outlet. “It’s nearer than you think. But retirement? No. From doing rock ’n’ roll stuff? Yes.”

When Rod isn’t busy focusing on his music, he is all about family. He is currently married to Penny Lancaster — they tied the knot in 2007 and have two children, Alastair, 13, and Aiden, 8. The performer also has six more kids from previous relationships. However, we shouldn’t expect another little one to arrive anytime soon.

“My cue is back in the rack, the banana’s back in the fruit bowl,” he said, revealing that that might be it for him when it comes to more kids.

Perhaps when it is all said and done the world will see Rod’s life and career in a film, like Elton and Freddie Mercury have received recently. “I haven’t seen the Elton John biopic, but I’d love one of me,” he said while at London nightclub Tramp’s 50th anniversary party.

Let’s hope it happens! Until then, keep on singing Rod!
