Sarah Michelle Gellar Has Upset A Lot Of People With Her Thanksgiving Instagram Post About Eating

It wouldn’t be a holiday season without a celebrity offending a lot of people, and Sarah Michelle Gellar has taken it upon herself to do just that with her latest Instagram post.

The 41-year-old actress, who is most known for playing Buffy on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and for playing bad career decision/Daphne in Scooby-Doo, took it to Instagram to share a photo of herself from a 2007 shoot. In the photo Sarah is in black lingerie. But what really has grabbed the attention of everyone is the caption that Sarah decided to write.

“I’m just going to pin these up all over my house as a reminder not to overeat on Thursday #thanksgivingprep,” Sarah wrote. And boy, are people angry.

This has been one of Sarah’s most liked photos on Instagram in recent memory, but it has also been one of her most controversial. One Instagram user wrote in response to the photo: “Important to think of young women/girls when you post things like this. How many do you think will throw up there supper after eating their Thanksgiving meal because they overate and worry about gaining weight? Let’s not encourage unhealthy attitudes and anxiety toward food.”

Another Instagram user wrote, “Please consider rewording this, there’s nothing wrong with eating or being something other than skinny. And this post is a great way to trigger people’s eating disorders.”

And while there were plenty of folks offended, there were also folks that defended Sarah. One user wrote, “Don’t worry with those sensible watchers, our world became very sensitive in some subjects, just ignore it, they are very unhappy people, eat what you want, post what you want, we live in a free and democratic world.”

While another user wrote, “Nothing wrong with not wanting to break a diet. Nothing wrong with wanting to stay the same weight.”

Sarah has been pretty open about her weight battles in the past, telling Health, “I totally have body dysmorphic disorder. I think most women do. I just have to remember that I’m human, and I’m a mom.”

Was it the best choice of words for Sarah? No. But since Sarah has always been open about her body issues, this is just another instance of her being honest. But with all the backlash Sarah has gone ahead and apologized for her caption, saying, “It’s come to my attention that some people think I was ‘fat shaming’ with this post,” Sarah wrote in the photo’s comments section. “That could not be further from my intentions. I love Thanksgiving and unfortunately my eyes are often bigger than my stomach, and I tend to eat so much I make myself sick.”

“This was a joking reminder to myself not to do that,” Sarah added. “I’m terribly sorry that people were offended by my attempt at humor. Any one that knows me, knows I would never intentionally ‘shame’ any one on any basis. I am a champion of all people.”

Well, that should keep the anger at bay.
