It’s been more than four months since Selma Blair bravely revealed to the world that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Though the actress has been laying relatively low since then, Selma, 46, made a major and very glam appearance at the Vanity Fair 2019 Oscars after-party in Beverly Hills on Sunday, February 24.

Looking more beautiful than ever, Selma donned a pink, mint green, purple and black gown with an impressive train while carrying a custom cane that only made her look that much better. “This is love,” Selma captioned a photo of the monogrammed cane that she shared to Instagram prior to the start of the 91st annual Academy Awards.

“I wanted a special cane for #vanityfair dinner,” she continued. “So … @lyon_heartedwent out and found patent leather and @bic_owen and he stitched it on. Hours of love put in. And then #tombachick made it especially magical. I burst into tears. These gifts to get me through. #subtle #chic #love. I can’t thank these three enough. There are angels.”

Fans of the Hellboy star were over the moon when she stepped out for her first huge public appearance in months. “You slayed that carpet. I’m enthralled by the dress you wore and it so made the cane look like an essential fashion accessory,” one user wrote in the comments section of a photo she posted while posing on the red carpet. “I love how in this photo the cane seems a symbol of force and strength, not of weakness,” said another.

Since opening up about her MS diagnosis last fall, Selma has been extremely vocal on social media about her struggles with the disease. “People write me asking how I do it. I do my best,” she wrote in a post following her diagnosis. “But I choke with the pain of what I have lost and what I dare hope for and how challenging it is to walk around.”

Selma added, “Going out, being sociable holds a heavy price. My brain is on fire. I am freezing. We feel alone with it even though the loving support has been a godsend and appreciated.” Though Selma is battling a very unpredictable and incurable disease, we admire her strength, bravery and her extremely positive outlook on life. You go, girl!
