‘Sound of Music’ Star Angela Cartwright’s Granddaughter Follows in Her Footsteps, Plays Brigitta

Angela Cartwright, who played Brigitta von Trapp in the 1965 musical The Sound of Music, is watching history repeat itself — this time from the audience.

The actress, 73, took to Instagram on Tuesday, July 21 to share a moment that brought her all the way back to 1965: her granddaughter, Addie, performing as Brigitta von Trapp in a recent theatrical production of the musical.

“To sit in the audience and watch a new generation bring this beautiful story to life was truly special,” Cartwright wrote in the caption, adding that “some moments remind you just how timeless a story—and the memories it creates—can be.”

Cartwright’s own turn as Brigitta came more than six decades ago in the film that would go on to become, for a time, the highest-grossing movie ever made, People reported on Wednesday, July 22. She starred alongside Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer as Maria and Capt. Georg von Trapp, with Charmian Carr, Nicholas Hammond, Heather Menzies, Duane Chase, Debbie Turner and Kym Karath rounding out the von Trapp children. The film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Cartwright’s résumé stretches well beyond the Alps. Before The Sound of Music, she spent years playing Linda Williams on The Danny Thomas Show, and afterward she took on the role of Penny Robinson on Lost in Space. She also appeared on My Three Sons, Adam-12 and The Love Boat, and has since built a career as a photographer, per the outlet.

Cartwright still considers her Sound of Music castmates family, dubbing the group the “Non-Trapps.” “We visit, we’ve been at births and marriages and deaths and been through experiences together,” she said, per People.

Her Instagram followers were quick to celebrate the full-circle milestone. “I absolutely love this!!! 2 beautiful Brigittas!!!💕💕” one fan commented. Another wrote, “How lovely! Bravo Addie! 🎶” A third called it “a blessing to enjoy such a beautiful legacy.”
