Ted Danson Says He’s ‘So Blessed’ to Be Married to Wife Mary Steenburgen: She’s ‘Heaven-Sent’

Ted Danson is still crazy about wife Mary Steenburgen, 29 years after they walked down the aisle. The Fargo alum had nothing but sweet things to say about his longtime partner while promoting his new Netflix series, A Man on the Inside.

In the new show, Ted, 76, plays a retired widower who becomes an amateur private investigator and touches on the subject of miracles. During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning on Sunday, November 10, he gushed about his miracle marriage to Mary, 71.

“Mary Steenburgen is, you know, literally heaven-sent,” the Cheers alum said. “I did some work on myself for about a year before I met her, after Cheers, becoming emotionally mature and real. And I worked hard at it. And then along came Mary Steenburgen. … We are so blessed. To love somebody and to be loved, is just one of those heaven-on-earth miracles, you know? And that came with Mary.”

Ted and Mary tied the knot in 1995 and are one of Hollywood’s sweetest couples! He echoed the same sentiment about how meeting his wife was truly a miracle during an April interview with Parade.

“Yeah, 30 years ago, when I met Mary Steenburgen. Without doubt. It was like this divine miracle that came my way and just changed my life completely … We both know how blessed we are,” the California native said.

When asked if he has any advice for those seeking a long-lasting marriage like his, he has the most touching answer.

“First off, no idea. My answer is, ‘Fall in love with Mary Steenburgen,’” he told the outlet. “I don’t know. I’ll tell you some of the things we happen to both enjoy and do: We celebrate how blessed we are. We laugh a lot. We are very supportive of the other person’s creativity, wherever that leads. I don’t know. It’s really miraculous. The truth is, instead of offering advice, the only thing you can really say that’s real is, ‘Thank you. I don’t know how and why I’m blessed. Thank you.'”

Ted is a dad to kids Kate and Alexis Danson, whom he welcomed with ex-wife Casey Coates. He is a stepfather to Mary’s kids, Lilly Walton and Charlie McDowell, from her previous marriage to Malcolm McDowell.

In addition to beaming over his marriage and family, Ted is thrilled to have a new project and a new outlook on his career.

“This is your life, not just up to, you know, 65 and then you retire and are going down. No, you get to live right up until you don’t live,” he shared. “And it’s your life. It’s such a gift. Explore it and be excited about it. Yes, it hurts. Yes, it’s sad. Yes, there’s grief. Yes, there’s all of that. But embrace it. Embrace it, is kind of what I think the message of the show is. It’s what I hope I live with.”

“I’m just emotional ’cause I finally said something I wanted to say!” Ted said.
