Most people hope their exes stay in the past, but Katherine LaNasa says her ex-husband Dennis Hopper had other plans.

During an interview with W Magazine shared on Tuesday, June 16, The Pitt star, 59, was asked if she believed in ghosts, to which she said she did.

“The ghost of Dennis Hopper would not leave me alone for a really long time,” she explained of her ex-husband, who she was married to from 1989 to 1992, and shared a son, Henry. “We had been divorced a very long time, but I was the last wife that he’d been with that he wasn’t currently divorcing, so I think that level of intimacy when you’re dying is maybe only something you can do with a partner?”

After Hopper’s divorce from LaNasa, the True Romance star married his fifth wife, Victoria Duffy, in 1996. However, in January 2010, he filed for divorce and just five months later, he died at the age of 74 from metastasized prostate cancer in May.

The Apocalypse Now actor didn’t visit in the most peaceful way, though, and LaNasa described some of her encounters with his ghost as “scary.”

“He came one time where he was at the Academy Awards, and he was in a wheelchair, and he fell down and it was super upsetting,” LaNasa told the outlet. “He used to come over me in, like, a sweat.”

Eventually, The Campaign actress had to put a stop to his spectral visits.

“I told him he had to leave me alone, and then he did, and then I felt really weird about it,” she went on.

It wasn’t until LaNasa spoke about “how weird” his appearances made her feel with a friend did she feel like she got closure.

“I told someone how weird I felt about it,” she recalled. “I walked home an odd way and ran into a gallery that had all of his photographs up, and [there was] a photograph of him in the very back of the gallery with a fedora on winking at the camera. So I felt like he was letting me go.”

That wasn’t the last she saw Hopper, however. Shortly after seeing his picture, LaNasa said he came to her in a dream and told her that he was “OK” and he was no longer in any pain. After that, she “never saw him again.”

Six years after her divorce from the Waterworld actor, LaNasa married actor French Stewart before they split in 2009. She married her third husband, Grant Show, in 2012, and the couple welcomed their daughter Eloise in 2014.
