Tim Allen’s ‘Last Man Standing’ Reboot Will Recast Two Original Roles

Some familiar faces will be missing in the Last Man Standing reboot. Deadline has confirmed that Molly Ephraim (Mandy Baxter) and Flynn Morrison (Boyd Baxter) — the actors who play Tim Allen's daughter and grandson — will not be involved in the revival. Though it's still unclear as to why Molly and Flynn are not returning.

The sitcom was canceled by ABC last year and it was recently picked up by FOX in May 2018. This will be the show's seventh season and according to Variety, the sitcom received strong ratings for its first six seasons in adults 18-49.

"I'm excited because we have so much left in our tank," Tim previously told Closer. "There were a lot of stories we hadn’t gotten to." Tim also explained how excited he was to tackle more serious issues for the show's revival — like guns. He says that his character "owns a sporting-goods store that has firearms, so we're going to have to deal with that somehow."

Gary Newman and Dana Walden, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group also talked about the show's reboot in a statement. "Last Man Standing ended too soon and the outcry from the fans has been deafening," they wrote. "We’ve wanted to put the show back together since its final taping a year ago, and Tim never gave up hope either. Thanks to its millions of devoted viewers and the irrepressible Tim Allen, we haven't seen the last of Last Man Standing."

It's always sad to see the original actors go but we're sure that the reboot coming this Fall will still be a big hit amongst fans. When asked why the hit show got canceled, ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey said, "That’s the job. I canceled Last Man Standing for the same business and scheduling reasons that I canceled Dr. Ken, The Real O’Neals, The Catch, and American Crime. And Last Man Standing was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings, but once we made the decision not to continue with comedies on Fridays, that was where we landed."
