Beloved entertainer Tim Curry, known by many for his iconic work in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, died at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 25. The actor worked in the industry for decades, and he continued to do voiceover work after a massive stroke limited his ability to act on camera. His years of work allowed Curry to accumulate a net worth estimated at $8 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
The British entertainer spent about 50 years in the industry, with acting roles on stage, in movies, and on television, and he was also involved in the music industry.
Most fans remember Curry best as the actor who portrayed Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He went on to portray a wide variety of characters over the years, though.
Curry starred as the butler Wadsworth in the 1985 movie Clue, and he played Pennywise in the 1990 television version of Stephen King’s novel It. Curry also had roles in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Annie, and The Hunt for Red October.
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Curry also released a few music albums. In later years, he focused on voiceover gigs, working on animated shows and video games such as Duckman, Wonder Pets!, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In 2012, Curry had a major stroke that significantly impacted his ability to do the work he loved. He made some appearances in the years after his stroke, but most of his work was in the voiceover segment of the entertainment industry.
As Curry’s website notes, the entertainer embraced voiceover work long before he experienced his stroke. His decision to move to Los Angeles, as well as to take on voiceover work, was what “would change Tim’s life and career.”
Curry’s first voiceover gig was to voice The Serpent in The Creation, and he discovered he loved that type of work. Eventually, he lent his voice to hundreds of characters and even won an Emmy in 1991 for his work in Peter Pan and the Pirates, where he voiced Captain Hook.
In addition to his passion for his work, Curry’s website shares that he previously owned a 1920s mansion in Los Feliz, an area of Los Angeles, that he restored from the dire condition it was in when he purchased it.
Of the home, where he added a garden that became a meaningful spot for him, Curry said, “Often I just sit up there and see what I imagine for the next project. If I didn’t have to work, I’d never leave.”
Curry no longer owned that home, but he discovered a love for property development and worked on several other homes in the Los Angeles area over the years as his work in the entertainment industry continued.
