Tom Cruise Is Not ‘Very Pleased’ With Former Lover Cher’s New Memoir, Source Says

Now this may come as a shock to you, but Tom Cruise actually dated Cher in the ’80s. Yes, read that again. And now that Cher is ready to release a new memoir, Tom is reportedly not happy about it at all.

A source on the set of Tom’s new film Top Gun 2 tells Daily Mirror that the 56-year-old actor isn’t exactly jumping for joy about Cher’s new memoir, Honest. “Everyone knew he [Tom] wasn’t happy,” the source says, adding, “It seemed like a bit of a touchy subject.” And while Tom’s relationship with Cher may be a “touchy subject,” it isn’t for Cher as she once told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that Tom was in her “top five” list of lovers. So that’s a feather Tom can hang on his hat.

Earlier this year, Cher also recalled meeting Tom for the first time at Madonna and Sean Penn‘s wedding in 1985, and then reuniting at an event at the White House. “A bunch of people who were dyslexic were invited to the White House, and Tom and I are both dyslexic,” Cher said “We didn’t go out till way later, but there definitely was a connection there.”

As far as Cher’s book, she says, “I just made the deal, but I have no time frame. It’s going to take me a while because I have a lot to tell,” adding, “It’s going to be more difficult than doing the play. I will grit my teeth through the whole thing because I’ll have to be honest.”

Cher will most definitely also be talking about Sonny Bono. A few weeks ago Cher told Elle, “Cow Palace lost our luggage and we had to [perform] in our day clothes,” the 72-year-old said. “Sonny wore that bobcat, and I wore huge bell-bottoms. We didn’t think, ‘Oh, we’re breaking some taboo’ or ‘We’re avant-garde’ or any of that. We just loved the way we looked… We broke big barriers, but we didn’t do drugs, and we didn’t change our sound.”

And now we will all have to wait for Cher’s book to hear more about Tom and Sonny.
