Tom Selleck is a proud dad both on TV and in real life! The Blue Bloods actor became a father when he adopted son Kevin Selleck during his first marriage to Jacqueline Ray.

Who Is Kevin Selleck?

Tom was married to his first wife, Jacqueline, from 1971 to 1982. During their marriage, he adopted Jacqueline’s son, Kevin, from a previous relationship.

According to Kevin’s IMDb page, he appeared in a 1987 episode of Magnum, P.I., in which his father starred as the titular character from 1980 to 1988. Additionally, Kevin also has a credit from his work on the Scream 2 soundtrack as a writer for “Eyes of Sand.” Kevin was a member of the band Tonic from 1993 to 1996.

In addition to Kevin, Tom is a dad to daughter Hannah Selleck, whom he welcomed with his second wife, Jillie Mack. Tom and Jillie have been married since 1987.

Tom admitted that juggling his Hollywood career and fatherhood wasn’t always easy.

“I think I’ve been a good dad. But you always think you missed opportunities,” he told People in April 2024. “I mean, when it comes right down to it, in our business the work comes first. You find a way to make that compatible, but…”

The TV star is overall very grateful for his experiences as an actor and as a father, saying , “I’ve had a very good life.”

Tom Selleck Is Close to His Kids

An insider told Closer about Tom’s relationship with his children amid his Hollywood stardom.

“He’s close [with his children] and a good dad,” the source said in January 2020. “Tom rides horses and spends time with [Hannah]. She’s a lovely young lady.”

Oftentimes in real life, Tom has related to his beloved Blue Bloods character Frank Reagan’s role as the patriarch of his family.

“I’m playing the patriarch of a family. I think Frank is sometimes an idiot and sometimes makes mistakes, but part of what he tries to be is a good dad,” Tom said during an October 2012 interview with CBS. “It’s hard to play leaders. You can’t show fear. You can’t show emotion, all those human emotions the audience wants to see.”

A few years later, the dad of two opened up about fatherhood and his famed TV character once more.

“You never stop being a dad even though your kids are grown,” he told Parade in September 2018. “Look, Frank’s flawed. I’ve worked very hard to make him flawed because he’s not easy to work for. He takes things out on his people and his family sometimes, and yet people like him. That’s the best kind of character to play. He tries to do the right thing. There aren’t a lot of good, strong, examples of patriarchs trying to do the right thing on television. So I think that performs a certain function; fathers are important.”
