Whoopi Goldberg Says ‘The Odyssey’ Represents ‘the Stupidity of Men’

Whoopi Goldberg is weighing in on the most controversial movie of the summer — The Odyssey.

During the Monday, July 20, episode of The View, Goldberg, 70, said she enjoyed Christopher Nolan‘s retelling of Homer‘s epic Greek classic, and she found it comparable to the current social climate.

“The thing about this for me, it gave me a lot of today, because it represents — and please don’t get annoyed with me, men — it does represent the stupidity of men,” the Ghost star told the audience.

Goldberg continued, “Men are told in this movie, ‘Don’t do this because this is going to happen,’ and every time they go and do that, and then they’re surprised that it’s gone the other way.”

The Color Purple actress also said the film was a good representation of “why war doesn’t really work for anybody.”

Goldberg went on to praise Anne Hathaway, who stars in the film as Penelope and was a guest during the episode alongside her costar Matt Damon and director Nolan.

“Women forget that they are insanely strong and they are clever because Penelope fools these men for 20 years,” Goldberg explained.

The Odyssey has been plagued with online commentary from some people who have declared the film as “too woke” for choosing Elliot Page to play a warrior in the movie, but it became a massive box office hit over the weekend. It earned $264 million globally in its opening weekend and became the biggest debut of Nolan’s career.
