Will Smith Had the Most Hilarious First Colonoscopy — But the Results Were Serious

Talk about sharing a very personal moment. Will Smith is no stranger to being open about his life, and he did that once again by getting his first colonoscopy — and sharing it with his fans.

“They said you can’t get to 50 million followers on IG without showing your butt. So here I am, gettin’ a colonoscopy for the clout,” the mega-star, 51, wrote via Instagram on Thursday, November 7. “Cause I’m 50, so people need to look up my stuff,” the father-of-two said on the clip. Will also shared a link to a 17-minute video of his visit to the doctor, including post-procedure.

“I haven’t done many drugs in my life, so, this stuff works on me really well,” the Oscar-nominee joke upon waking up and feeling the effects of the anesthesia.. “I feel like I have to poop. Do I have to poop? Or was there a camera up my a– that’s giving me the sensation?” However, it wasn’t all fun and games when Will learned of the results from his doctor, Dr. Ala Stanford, who informed him that they removed pre-cancer tissues.

“Had you not known, it continues to grow and grow,” the doctor explained to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum. “You would’ve had fewer typical symptoms. And by the time you presented, it could be full-blown and spread throughout your body. So, the fact that you were compliant … we diagnosed early. So what it means for you, in real talk, instead of getting a screening every 10 years — which is what happens when people have a normal colonoscopy — you need to get yours in the next two to three years.”

Fans were all about this close look at an important piece of Will’s life, as they took to the comments section to respond. “We love you. So hilarious but health is so serious,” one person said. Another added, “Thank you. I’m a survivor and advocate.”

“You know, when I decided I wanted to shoot this as a vlog, it was much more of a ‘Hey, this will be cool. It will be fun,'” the Aladdin star said. “I didn’t realize that there would be a pre-cancerous polyp that would get found out of it.”

Will has no problem being honest and vulnerable with his fans. He recently spoke about life growing up. “A huge part of my childhood was marked by fear and a huge part of my drive in life was marked by fear,” he said on The Graham Norton Show, via Entertainment Tonight Canada. “You can generate great things, you can succeed and win, but you can never really be happy if you’re scared.”

We are just glad all is well with Will.
