Will There Be a Tracker Spinoff? Series Expansion Updates

Tracker has been quite a success story on CBS since season 1 debuted in February 2024. With season 2 of the show wrapping in May 2025, and season 3 set to debut on CBS in the fall, fans of the drama series have been curious to know if there are plans for a spinoff.

Will There Be a ‘Tracker’ Spinoff?

While there hasn’t been anything officially announced, executive producer Elwood Reid said that a Tracker spinoff is definitely something he’s thought about. However, he would want to approach a spinoff with intention and not doing it just for the sake of doing it.

“There’s been a lot of shows that spin off incorrectly. The same level of care and craftsmanship that you see in Tracker has to be considered. My first rule of writing any show is, ‘Don’t do any harm to the main show. Don’t siphon something off,’” he told Us Weekly in May 2025. “But at the same time, you have to make whatever you’re doing as good and as thoughtful.”

He acknowledged that Tracker definitely has a massive fanbase that is eager to see more.

Tracker is just one of those weird magic shows that came together. It resonated with people because there’s an emotional accessibility to that,” Elwood said. “You need that for any spinoff you do. You need someone who’s emotionally there and available. The stories can be surprising and fun.”

What Does Justin Hartley Think About a ‘Tracker’ Spinoff?

Elwood said that he talked to Justin Hartley, who stars as Colter Shaw in Tracker and serves as an executive producer, and said that he is on the same page about a spinoff. They are just looking for the “right idea” to come along and turn the thought into a reality.

“If the right idea comes by, we’ve had some loose ideas for spinoffs. If and when we are lucky enough to be able to do that, we have to do it in a way that is as good — if not better — than the original,” Elwood said.

Characters We Want to See in a ‘Tracker’ Spinoff

While there are some characters who would make great candidates for a Tracker spinoff, we think Billie Matalon, played by Justin’s real-life wife, Sofia Pernas, would be a great leading lady for a spinoff. She’s got the same grit and determination as Colter and has been in the rewardist business for many years.

Billie has appeared a handful of times as a guest star in both seasons of the show. Most recently, she starred in season 2, episode 15, titled “The Grey Goose,” where she really put her neck on the line for Colter by going undercover in a women’s prison. After helping Colter save the day, things turned romantic between the two. But it doesn’t seem like Billie or Colter are looking for anything long-term right now.

It would be interesting to see Billie go off on her own and run her own rewardist business with her own crew in a spinoff with occasional cameos from Colter to help her out on her cases. Other characters we think would make for a good spinoff are Dory Shaw, Colter’s sister played by Melissa Roxburgh, who has popped in and out of the episodes as he searched for answers about their father’s death, or Russell Shaw, Colter’s mysterious older brother.
