Stevie Nicks may be celebrating her 78th birthday, but the Fleetwood Mac icon has made one thing clear over the years: she has no intention of quietly stepping away from music. Fans say that her fierce attitude is part of why they still love her decades later.
Nicks first became a household name in the ’70s with Fleetwood Mac. While a member of Fleetwood Mac, Nicks helped create some of classic rock’s most enduring songs, including “Landslide” and “Dreams.”
Decades later, many fans still say her distinctive voice and stage presence feel unmatched.
In 2024, Nicks talked to Rolling Stone about aging. She quipped, “I’ll probably live to be hatefully 95 years old.”
She admitted, “I have no want to be that old, honestly. I mean, I’ll have an electric scooter, and I will be raging and I will keep dancing.”
When asked about the idea of retiring. Nicks explained, “Well, if I can stay looking pretty good…When I think that it’s age inappropriate, I won’t do it anymore.”
Nicks continued, “I’d be happy to tour all the beautiful gothic theaters of the United States and Europe, and do two hours and be able to sit in a chair for some of it. Do some songs in my whole catalog that I’ve always wanted to do and never done.”
A few years earlier, in 2017, Nicks told Rolling Stone she had no interest in ever retiring. She’s stated that she was not willing to “just throw in the towel and let your hair turn white and look like a frumpy old woman.”
“I’m never gonna go there,” Nicks insisted.

Fans aren’t ready to see Nicks retire, either. The Fleetwood Mac icon’s birthday prompted a flood of commentary across social media from her fans.
“A brilliant, talented lady with a voice that could charm nearly anyone. Except my partner,” a fan on Reddit wrote.
A post on X, formerly Twitter, read, “Happy birthday to the ultimate high priestess of rock and roll, Stevie Nicks! Thank you for decades of enchanting music, timeless style, and a voice that continues to captivate generations.”
More than 50 years after helping reshape rock music, Nicks still shows little interest in slowing down. Whether the Fleetwood Mac star is touring arenas or joking about performing from an electric scooter at 95, fans seem perfectly happy to keep following along.
