Fans Still Can’t Believe This Fleetwood Mac Classic Still Hits the Same Decades Later
Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Landslide’ is surging again after the ‘Stranger Things’ finale and a Sabrina Carpenter duet, hitting the Billboard Hot 100 and moving fans across generations.
More than 50 years after Fleetwood Mac released “Landslide,” the song is once again leaving listeners feeling emotional. Its appearance in the Stranger Things finale sparked a major resurgence for the iconic ballad, introducing it to younger listeners while giving longtime fans a chance to revisit the lyrics that still hit hard decades later.
Over the years, fans of “Landslide” have discussed their love for the song. Several years ago in the Fleetwood Mac subreddit, one fan asked which line in the song makes others “sob uncontrollably.”
A few commenters chose the line, “Well, I’ve been ‘fraid of changin’ ‘Cause I’ve built my life around you.” A couple of others chose a line specifically from the live version where Stevie Nicks sings, “This one’s for you, Daddy.”
Several fans noted that every line of “Landslide” still resonates deeply with them.
In another Reddit thread about the song’s resurgence thanks to Stranger Things, one person noted, “If it means the younger generation is getting into classic rock lyricism, then I’m all in favor of it.”
Not only did “Landslide” pop up in the Stranger Things finale, but Nicks also recently joined Sabrina Carpenter to sing it live at the Met Gala.
“I’ve always loved this song. I turned 46 last week and it just hit me so hard in a completely different way and now I’m crying,” a fan admitted in a Reddit post after watching the Met Gala duet.
Another responded, “I sang the ‘children get older’ line as my toddlers were eating breakfast and started crying.”
“Landslide” reappeared on the Billboard 100 as a result of its brief use in the Stranger Things finale. According to Billboard, it debuted on the Hot 100 list at number 41 during the week of January 17.
The Hot 100 appearance marks the 26th time a Fleetwood Mac song has landed on the list. It also means that Fleetwood Mac has had a song on the Hot 100 in five separate decades, a feat achieved by a select list of iconic artists.
In addition, Madonna and Cher have had hits in five separate decades, as have other iconic entertainers such as Prince, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, and a handful of others.
“Landslide” was first released by Fleetwood Mac over 50 years ago, but the lyrics continue to strike listeners in meaningful and emotional ways all these years later.
