You’re familiar with the songs that made her one of the most talented singers on the planet, but you should also know Alicia Keys is an incredible mom of two kids. Though she has an extremely busy schedule as a music superstar, the “No One” songstress will always be dedicated to her sons, Egypt and Genesis.

Alicia and her husband, producer Swizz Beatz, tied the knot in July 2010, and they started their family just three months after walking down the aisle. The duo welcomed their first child, Egypt, that October, followed by their youngest, Genesis, in 2014.

Since experiencing parenthood, the Grammy Award winner has never been shy about talking about her life as a mother, especially just how important the role has been in her life.

“Motherhood gave me a stronger sense of clarity,” the entertainer gushed to Harper’s Bazaar in August 2019. “I used to be less aware of how I wanted to spend my time and more influenced by other people. After I had my kids, I felt like I had found my North Star. I was less wasteful; I worked more effectively.”

Though Alicia knows she’s a wonderful mom, she was actually once unsure about ever becoming a parent. “What if I’m not cut out for motherhood? What if I fail at being responsible for a child — a life? What if I can’t do this?” she wrote in her March 2020 memoir, More Myself. “⁣There’s probably not a person on earth who hasn’t asked those questions in some form, at some point in time. The fear of possible inadequacy is real.”

Fortunately, Alicia has learned some tips and tricks along the way on how to be “a better mother.” While chatting with USA Today in May 2021, the “If I Ain’t Got You” singer credited meditation for giving her the confidence to be the best parent.

“Once you make that kind of deep connection with yourself, your relationship with everything and everyone around you changes. As I’d hoped, I became a better mother because I was more confident in myself,” she explained. “I could hear what I needed and what my family needed.”
