Former First Daughters! Get to Know Barack and Michelle Obama’s 2 Kids, Malia and Sasha

We watched them age before our very eyes, but now, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama‘s kids are all grown up and are taking the world by storm! The 44th President of the United States and the former first lady are the proud parents of their two daughters, Malia Obama and Sasha Obama. 

After leaving the White House, the girls went on to pursue their own passions in college. While sending your child off to college is hard, the Becoming author revealed that she was so excited for her kids to embark on their college experience. 

In an interview in November 2018, Michelle admitted that sending Malia off to Harvard University in 2017 wasn’t as hard as she thought.

“I don’t feel like she’s away,” Michelle told People of her eldest child at the time. “I feel like she’s off on her next adventure, so I’m excited about her. I don’t need my children to make me happy. I had them so that they’d be happy.”

The proud mom also opened up about new milestones in her daughters’ lives during an April 2022 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. After reminiscing about memories they made together before her kids moved out of their family home, Michelle revealed that Malia and Sasha have boyfriends. 

“They loved the Jonas Brothers,” she said. “Now they are bringing grown men home. Before it was just pop bands. Now they have boyfriends and real lives.” 

Barack also commented on his children’s love lives in a May 2021 episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden. In the same appearance, he revealed why he did not think Sasha and Malia would follow in his footsteps to pursue careers in public service. 

“First of all, them as teenagers having Secret Service guys follow them when they were going out on dates, I think probably has shut down their interest in public service,” he explained. “They still have PTSD from guys talking into their wrist microphones with glasses as they’re trying to go to a music concert.”

One thing that the Hawaii native made clear is that he will always support his kids no matter what career paths they decide on. 

“They have turned into just exceptional young women,” he continued. “I could not be prouder of them, not just because they’re smart and accomplished, but they’re just kind people. They don’t have an attitude.”
