Beloved Oscar Winner Would Have Turned 75 Today and Fans Still Miss Him
Fans are honoring late actor Robin Williams, and his iconic career, on what would have been his 75th birthday.
Robin Williams would have celebrated his 75th birthday on July 21. Now, more than a decade after his death, fans are still celebrating the actor whose humor, kindness, and unforgettable performances left an enduring mark on generations of moviegoers and television viewers.
Williams’ 2014 death by suicide still feels heartbreaking to fans. As many honor him on his birthday, they also note they continue to miss seeing him on movie and television screens.
“The world is a lesser place without him,” one fan remarked on Reddit.
“Breaks my heart. Still haven’t watched a film with him since his passing. Too sad,” admitted another fan.
Someone else revealed that Williams is “One of the few celebrities that I honestly grieve for.”
On Facebook, a fan shared, “I wind up feeling, yes, sad; but equally blessed and happy the universe allowed us to exist on earth at the same space and time as this very talented, sharp minded, good man and compassionate beautiful soul!!”
While many first discovered Williams through his chaotic comedic energy, his path to stardom began years earlier. Before his breakout role in the television comedy Mork and Mindy, Williams studied political science and later attended the Juilliard School in New York.
The 1987 movie Good Morning, Vietnam generated an extended fan base for Williams, showing he could do much more than play a wacky alien. Mrs. Doubtfire cemented his reputation as a fantastic comedic actor, but he proved he could excel in more serious roles, too.
Movies such as Dead Poets Society, Awakenings, and Good Will Hunting further cemented Williams as a Hollywood star who brought something special to every role he tackled.
Williams won an Oscar for his work in Good Will Hunting, and Oscar nominations for Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, and The Fisher King. Over the course of his career, he also received multiple Golden Globe awards and the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.
The actor also snagged Emmy and Grammy Awards for his work, reinforcing how talented and well-rounded Williams was as an entertainer.
More than a decade after his passing, Williams continues to make audiences laugh, cry, and think through the films he left behind. He created a legacy that fans say only grows more meaningful with time.
